Today the Senior MLTC tennis players together own and operate a Community Amateur Sports Club (CASC) to enjoy social and competitive tennis together.
A visitor or new member might only know the club by our current activities and achievements
- MLTC junior and senior players and teams winning at the county and national level.
- LTA highly rates MLTC as a coaching performance centre in Berkshire.
- MLTC introduces tennis to far more school students in many more area schools than any other tennis club in the area.
- MLTC does fun social events as well for members and their family and friends.
Behind those current achievements MLTC is one of the very oldest tennis club communities in the world furthering the sport of tennis in our area.
- Our youngest player is 5 and our “most senior” senior player still actively playing recently celebrated their 90th birthday.
- Many players recount playing at MLTC as a young person then returning with their own children and even grandchildren.
- The MLTC Community offers everyone ways to mix in and play and get to know others on the court and in the clubhouse.
If you are a new member welcome!
We have many new members joining on a pretty regular basis. So you are not alone.
Some new members have played tennis for years, and others are just picking up a racket for the first time or after a very long time.
But all members have one thing in common- we were all new members once upon a time.
All new members should go through the Induction class at the Club. You’ll learn about MLTC, rules and etiquette of tennis, and be assigned a rating by the coaches.
Rusty Racket Course
MLTC has “rusty racket” sessions now to help beginners and players who need to brush up on their tennis strokes before going into general club session play.
This course helps players gain sufficient stroke ability to serve and rally on the forehand and backhand. Which is absolutely vital.
Tennis Buddy Directory
But for many “rusty racket” course players, they want additional hitting practice on the court with other like minded players to get used to hitting the ball lots. And also to get more familiar with court etiquette and the rules of play.
For many, they have the ability but need to gain a bit more confidence and a bit more familiarity with court etiquette and rules before mixing into general club sessions.
MLTC will begin asking for some volunteer experienced club member players who would be willing to be on a “Tennis Buddy” player directory and available to play some doubles with new players at the club who want to just gain some time playing doubles and getting used to tennis rules and tennis etiquette. MLTC will help new players and Tennis Buddies get in touch to arrange their own doubles court time and play. As well as organise some times for more organised “Tennis Buddy” tournaments. Several new members have already suggested that this would be exactly what they need, and several club members have already volunteered. So keep checking the MLTC website.
The club organises regular weekly club sessions, plenty of social and team play as well, as well as fun social events for the members.
Members also organise their own regular doubles and singles play for their perfect mix of social and competitive enjoyment.
The members page has the member directory sorted by Last name, First name, and Rating.
Playing competitive match tennis is a different and exciting form of tennis from social tennis. All members are encouraged to give it a try and enjoy yourself.
The MLTC Club tournament is a great way to get a taster and meet and play lots of other members at the club. Register in the spring, in the categories you want to compete in, play your matches and win the final in September. That’s all there is to it! The only problem is that lots of members at the club intend to do the same thing. And there is only one trophy for each category to win. Very fun to play in , and a very high standard of tennis at the finals day.
The Winter Box League organised by Nigel is yet another type of competitive playing opportunity.
Tryout for a place on the MLTC Teams. Attend the team night practices and be willing to substitute if needed, and you might just have an opportunity to represent MLTC club at the county level or the national level.
Lastly, there are many open tournaments to compete all over Berkshire, other neighbouring counties, and across the UK so that any doubles team or singles player could play a competitive match every weekend if they want to.
Development isn’t just for beginners. The top tennis players in the world constantly look for ways to improve their game.
Whether a beginner or experienced club player, whether a doubles player or a singles player, a social player or team player, no matter what level of tennis you play at, there are always areas of your game that could benefit and improve with some development activities.
The most likely way to develop your tennis game is to arrange some coaching.
The best form of that is one on one coaching with one of the fine coaches at MLTC. And coaching sessions can also be for more than one person at a time.
But practicing what you learn either on your own, with a ball machine, tennis partner, and whilst playing matches is also part of your development.
Development is also mental- thinking about what you are doing. watching players and matches, online coaching and tennis tips videos, and tennis articles can help you with ideas to try on the court.
There are excellent resources to understand the etiquette and rules of tennis at the club and on the internet.
Each year, the LTA is setting aside a number of “Ballots” for Wimbledon tickets for a “Draw” for eligible MLTC club members.
Only members who have 1) a current BTM number, 2) are currently members of MLTC 3) have opted in to the Wimbledon Ballot “Draw”
The winners of the Ballots will have a short period of time to purchase their tickets or lose their ballot.
This year MLTC will have a fun event to open the bar and perform the draws for the members who are eligible, details to be announced.
We hope you make this your best year ever for tennis at MLTC.
